A damp Friday

Es i bore coffi Cymraeg yn y Bwtsiars, Llantrisant. I went to the Welsh coffee morning at the Butchers in Llantrisant.

I scanned a couple of old black and white photographs on my new scanner this morning, these two were taken by my father who was a very good photographer and from whom I picked up so much photographic knowledge. The first photograph was taken in the studio under tungsten lighting, the rather cute subject is me at a much younger age. πŸ™‚ The second photograph of my mother was taken at home during a session when my father was testing equipment.

David’s car was in the garage for a new clutch this morning, unfortunately a slight mis-diagnosis on David’s part as the differential in the gearbox is broken rather than the clutch. The gearbox and clutch were changed so all he needs to do now is get it through the MOT!

I called into Piccadilly Photographic this afternoon to collect the album for Neil and Michelle and then mounted the photographs in the album. Their album and re-print order is now complete and ready to drop off to them this evening.

A bright sunny Thursday

A beautiful morning, I thought that perhaps spring was at last arriving but it clouded over by mid-morning and was really cold. I spent most of the day helping David change the rear brake shoes on his car. I’m hoping that the hassle of doing all this work on his car will encourage him to refrain from the ‘boy racer’ driving technique that eats his tyres, brakes and clutch at an alarming rate, we’ve bought more tyres for David this last year than both our BMWs and Passat combined!

A cold bright Wednesday

I spent most of the day helping my son David get his car working, this involved a trip to the local tyre service for three tyres, a trip to the local motor factors for a clutch, front discs, front brake pads and rear brake shoes. David changed the front discs and pads this afternoon, he’s having a new windscreen fitted tomorrow and also hopes to change the rear brake shoes tomorrow, he’s naturally expecting me to help. πŸ™‚ Friday the car is booked in for a new clutch and then its just the MOT! Unfortunately with David’s style of driving the tyres and brakes will need changing again very soon. πŸ™

I’ve been evaluating some new slideshow software that not only creates DVD slideshows but creates a fairly good web based slideshow, so far it looks very interesting and may replace the software I’m currently using to produce DVD slideshows of our wedding photographs.

Welsh class this evening, more work in preparation for the next assessment.

A fine Monday

I went into Piccadilly Photographic this morning to collect more albums and mounts. Re-calibrated and profiled my Eizo monitor and did a little housekeeping on the main computer.

Had an email to confirm that my new scanner has been sent, it should arrive tomorrow.

A sunny bright Sunday

A lovely morning, up very early as usual. My ageing Canon scanner has been playing up for some time after working well for a number of years. I’ve dismantled it and it appears to be a problem with the ribbon cable between the sensor and main circuit board, I could repair it but as it’s now fairly old and lower resolution than current models I decided that it’s time to get a replacement. I don’t scan a large number of things but I need a scanner that will scan documents, photographs for retouching and negatives up to medium format sizes so I decided to purchase the Canon 8400F, it’s an upgraded and higher resolution model that is very similar in design to my current scanner, it should arrive early next week.

We had lunch at John and Ida’s in Pontypridd, they make delicious home made rice pudding. πŸ™‚

A relaxing evening at home.

A bitterly cold Friday

Some light snow early this morning, very cold with a severe wind chill.

A networking lunch at Right Management Consultants today, an interesting speaker and a good opportunity to network. A wander around Cardiff after the lunch. David had a job interview in the offices next door to Right’s, he’s been offered a job and starts on Monday. πŸ™‚

I hope it’s warmer tomorrow as I have to service the brakes on both the Passat and the green BMW. πŸ™
