Happy 21st Birthday Paul

My son Paul is 21 today, happy birthday!

I dropped some images of the floral decorations I’d taken last Saturday at Bryngarw House off at Talbot Florists in Talbot Green this morning. Shopping at Tesco and a trip in to Pontypridd. Called in to see my mum, then a quiet evening relaxing.

A colder Wednesday

David ran out of petrol again this morning so I had to go out yet again with my petrol can, he refilled it this time. 🙂

Obtained a number of insurance quotes for my photographic equipment, professional insurance is still very expensive but a necessary evil, I’ve decided to stay with my current insurers.

A wet Tuesday

Called in to the RS trade counter this morning to collect an order, I then went to Leekes to do a little shopping and have lunch. I bought a new wireless front door bell that has a chime unit that plugs into the mains, the old unit ran on batteries with a very short life and no warning when they were flat. Returned home and installed the new door bell, it works very well.

Claire has a brand new blog, so I’ve been catching up on her trip to Scotland and looking at the images she’s posted.

A busy Monday

I called over to Caerphilly to collect a new head for my Manfrotto monopod. Various correspondence and admin filled most of the afternoon. I Posted a CD to the lab for a variety of prints. I went over to my mum’s later this afternoon, she lives just off Church Road, which runs between Ton-teg (where she lives) and Upper Church Village (where I live), unfortunately Church Road is closed today for a couple of weeks and it’s total grid-lock on all the local roads. It took me two hours to drive back from my mum’s to home, a distance of about a mile! 🙁 The green BMW is booked in to Chris Babbage on Thursday for some work on the brakes.

A quiet Sunday

I spent the morning creating the DVD slide show and web gallery for Alistair and Amy’s wedding, which will be available for viewing once they return from their honeymoon in Kenya.  John and Ida’s for Sunday lunch.

After lunch I created the thumbnail prints that are included with the DVD slideshow and created the second DVD back up of the wedding images.

A quiet and relaxing evening.

Alistair & Amy’s wedding at Bryngarw House

Today I had the pleasure of photographing Alistair and Amy’s wedding at Bryngarw House, they are a lovely couple with great family and guests. It was quite overcast when I arrived at the venue but by the time we were taking the outside photographs the sun was blazing. I spent the evening converting the raw files from the day to jpegs and creating backups of all the images to DVD.

Here are some useful Welsh language terms relating to photographing weddings:

ffotograffydd priodas – wedding photographer

gwenwch – smile!

Edrychwch arna i – look at me!

Here are a couple of photographs of Alistair and Amy’s cake.

A cloudy Friday

I took the Passat to Chris Babbage in Cardiff for a service this morning, I travelled back by train to Treforest and then caught the bus from Treforest to Upper Church Village. The bus stop is adjacent to the river Taff so I walked down to the observation platform and took this image of the weir with my Fuji F11 point and shoot camera.

The bus stops outside the pub, which is only a few hundred yards from home, here’s a photograph of my local, the Farmers Arms in Upper Church Village

Farmers Arms

The ‘main road’ through Upper Church Village has only a pub, a church and some cottages, so here’s a photograph of St Illtyd’s church – the reason the village is called ‘Church Village’. The church is on a site that has been used for Christian worship since the fifth century although the present building dates from 1525, the tower dates from 1636 and the 16th century chalice and paten are still in use. The church is said to be one of the finest examples of Laudian architecture in Wales.

A bright Thursday

One of the hard disks on my main computer has crc errors, reformating the drive and restoring from Wednesday’s back up has cured the problem. A trip into Caerphilly to Walters Photovideo this afternoon, on the way back home I called in to see my Mum. Paul called in this afternoon, his band have another gig this evening.  David called in this evening to hog the computer once again.
