A dry and bright Monday

I finally received a response from Symantec technical support relating to the problems I’m experiencing with the upgrade to Internet Security 2007. Unfortunately it isn’t possible to complete the steps outlined in the fix as yet another one of Symantec’s fixing tools fails to run! The instructions are also contradictary, in one section I’m advised to remove a complete folder but a little further along I’m advised not to remove that complete folder. In reality it isn’t possible to remove any of the items in the folder by following the instructions as access to the folder is denied when Internet Security is running even after switching off product protection. The only way to remove the folder or any items contained within it involves starting the computer in safe mode. I’ve responded to the support email advising that the fix process cannot be completed and asking for some less ambiguous instructions. I wonder if any of the support people actually try to follow the processes they suggest?

I really hope this doesn’t follow the same path as the support request I raised several months ago where we went round in circles for weeks and weeks with senior support technicians before I finally threw in the towel and removed Internet Security from one of my systems. It worked fine until you ran a LiveUpdate and then the hard disk would continually access and the system would grind to a halt. That was a very time consuming lesson in how purchased software sometimes cannot be made to work, perhaps I could have had a refund but I was so frustrated by the amount of time I’d already wasted following the lengthy ‘fixing’ processes and then each time having to restore my hard disk from a Ghost image to get back to a working system that I’d really had enough of the whole process.
