I must post more frequently!

I really must make an effort to keep this blog up to date! Things have been very busy recently mainly with commercial photography commissions, the ‘wedding season’ starts very soon and I’m looking forward to another busy time.

We’re still offering some special offer wedding packages, subject to availability.

I’ve recently started using Twitter and I’m finding it very interesting, great for keeping up with the latest news.

Happy New Year – Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i chi i gyd

I haven’t posted for a little while, decided to take a couple of weeks break over Christmas.

Upgraded the software on the main server just before Christmas following the rebuild after the mother board failure, it’s now running Suse Linux 10.2 and is performing very well. Following the upgrade to BT Total Broadband we’re getting much better download and upload speeds which certainly helps with uploading galleries to our web site and sending images to the lab for printing. I upgraded my blog software this morning to the latest version which was released a few hours ago, everything seems to be working well and a much smoother upgrade process than previous updates.

We’re quite busy again at the moment, it’s one of those times of the year when we’re handling a number of bookings for new weddings, I really enjoy meeting with new couples and finding out their plans for their special day.

I’ve also nearly competed my tax return so should be ready to submit it on-line next week ahead of the end of month cut off date, luckily my accounts are fully computerised so it’s largely a manual transfer of information from my accounts to the tax return with some manual calculations, fortunately the Tax Calc software carries out a check on the details entered and performs all those tedious tax calculations, it’s excellent value at around £20 for each new release and saves me several hours of work.

A cloudy Monday

A nice start to the day, a bride who had cancelled her wedding plans for later this year rang to say that the wedding had been re-scheduled, luckily we’re still available for her new date and we’ve now re-booked her wedding. 🙂

Wedding dates for 2007 and 2006 are steadily booking and we’re also receiving enquiries for 2008, we always advise people to book early to avoid disappointment, we only photograph one wedding a day so once we’re booked the date is no longer available. When we first started photographing weddings in the early 90s people generally arranged their wedding a year or two in advance, many people still do this but in recent years there seems to be more of a trend towards people making the arrangements three to six months before the wedding. This unfortunately often means we are already booked on their wedding date. The shortest notice wedding we have so far booked is a week before the ceremony, I believe the couple had booked the venues over a year in advance but didn’t make all the other arrangements until just before. Another interesting trend over the last few years is that the ‘traditional wedding season’ has shifted to later in the year, when we started April, May and June were often our busiest months with weddings begining to slow in September. Over the last few years the early months have been less popular with a large number of weddings continuing through to October.

We are very lucky that in South Wales we have a very wide range of beautiful venues from small country house hotels, castles, former stately homes to up market modern hotels, with such a wide range of lovely venues there is less of a need for couples in the area to arrange their weddings on a Sunday due to limited venue availability, although we are now starting to see a marked increase in the number of Friday weddings and a slow increase in Sunday weddings over the last couple of years.

I’m very grateful to Rhys Wynne who tried to post a comment to one of my posts and was kind enough to email me letting me know that there was a problem with the comment processing. I’ve now fixed the problem. 🙂
