Unfortunately not enough people have enrolled to make the current class viable so I now need to find an alternative which is a real shame as they’re are a great bunch of people at the current class and Julie has done an excellent job as my tutor over the last four years. I spoke to the University of Glamorgan this morning and there is an alternative course that appears to have sufficient numbers running in the village. I should be able to enrol tomorrow afternoon. It’s always a problem maintaining numbers through the years as the course continues, the course I’m hoping to enrol on meets twice a week so I should be able to complete the current intermediate level in one year which will be a bonus.

I’ve fixed my Mum’s car
I removed the distributor from my Mum’s car and then went to K & L Vehicle Dismantlers on Wentloog Road in Cardiff to pick up a used distributor for ΓΒ£15. Back to my Mum’s to fit it and check the ignition timing is still correct, the car is now running fine again. π
More car woes!
This time it was the turn of my Mum to break down, right on the approach to traffic lights. π I towed her Volkswagen Polo back to her drive and parked it under the car port. I had a quick look to see if I could work out what’s wrong. There’s no ignition spark, there’s ignition supply to the coil and distributor and the coil windings are displaying the correct values of resistance but the distributor is full of lots of little ceramic fragments so it looks like the hall effect sensor has disintegrated.
Catching up with the admin
I finished entering up my accounts today, I’ve used the MYOB accounts package for a number of years with periodic upgrading to new versions. It’s excellent software and saves a considerable amount on accountancy fees being able to do everything including completion of Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet. π
I also completed my current VAT return today and submitted it on-line and transferred the payment to HMC&R. π
I then finished my income tax return and submitted that on-line, I haven’t noticed any adverts on TV warning that the cut off date for submission if you want HMC&R to calculate the tax bill is the 30th September, not that it’s a problem as the TaxCalc software that I use to complete returns does all the tedious calculations.
It’s really nice to have everything fully up to date. π
A cool Wednesday
Pobol y Cwm fans may be interested to know that Lisa Victoria who plays Sheryl in the popular Welsh TV series now has her own web site. It’s also nice to see some familiar faces returning to the series including Debbie Moon who plays Rhian Haf, Rhys ap William who plays Cai and Catrin Arwel who plays Emma.
Now that the peak of the wedding season is over I’m currently working on a number of wedding album designs and I spent the afternoon working on my accounts.
David and Hannah called in this evening. π
Dosbarth Cymraeg
Es i Dosbarth Cymraeg bore yma.
Welsh classes started again this morning, once again struggling a little on numbers attending, we’ll have to wait and see what happens next week, hopefully a few more people will be there. A lot of changes this year now that the University of Glamorgan have taken over the administration of the courses, a new syllabus complete with new books. Only two more years to go to complete the course!
Cars!
The central locking is working fine today on the Passat! I connected my laptop to the diagnostic socket and it is showing that Key 2 was giving some intermittent problems, I cleared the fault code, I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens, at least the boot lock is now free so I can unlock the car if I have any further problems. I’ve been driving the Nissan Patrol today though. π
The RAC man rescues me!
I parked the Volkswagen Passat for a short while but when I returned and pressed the unlock button on the remote control nothing happened. I wasn’t very far from LDS Motor Factors so I walked there and bought two new batteries for the remote and returned to the car, unfortunately still nothing happened when the remote was pressed. Rather than hang around outside and wait for the RAC to arrive I walked home and picked up the Nissan Patrol and drove back to the Passat and called the RAC. It took just over three hours for the RAC to arrive (in a Nissan Patrol!) but their control centre phoned frequently to apologise for the delay and to keep me updated on the likely arrival time. The usual method of passing a rod through the door frame unfortunately didn’t work as the central locking deadlocks when activated. The door locks had unfortunately never been used with the key so both the driver and passenger locks were seized, fortunately it was possible to free the boot lock and unlock the car. The RAC patrol man then followed me back home and dropped me back so I could pick up the Nissan Patrol. I suppose the lesson from this is that even though the car has remote central locking you need to use the key in each lock now and again just to stop the locks seizing, also if Volkswagen had designed the air con intake properly the electronic control units under the passenger seat wouldn’t have a tendency to get flooded and cause all sorts of intermittent problems. π
A fine Thursday
We met with a really lovely couple this evening, Natalie & James who are currently planning their wedding for March next year in Monmouth.
Happy Birthday Hannah
It’s Hannah’s 18th birthday today so we were invited to the party this evening to celebrate. My son David was the chief cook and he did a really good job with the barbecue. π
