The RAC man rescues me!

I parked the Volkswagen Passat for a short while but when I returned and pressed the unlock button on the remote control nothing happened. I wasn’t very far from LDS Motor Factors so I walked there and bought two new batteries for the remote and returned to the car, unfortunately still nothing happened when the remote was pressed. Rather than hang around outside and wait for the RAC to arrive I walked home and picked up the Nissan Patrol and drove back to the Passat and called the RAC. It took just over three hours for the RAC to arrive (in a Nissan Patrol!) but their control centre phoned frequently to apologise for the delay and to keep me updated on the likely arrival time. The usual method of passing a rod through the door frame unfortunately didn’t work as the central locking deadlocks when activated. The door locks had unfortunately never been used with the key so both the driver and passenger locks were seized, fortunately it was possible to free the boot lock and unlock the car. The RAC patrol man then followed me back home and dropped me back so I could pick up the Nissan Patrol. I suppose the lesson from this is that even though the car has remote central locking you need to use the key in each lock now and again just to stop the locks seizing, also if Volkswagen had designed the air con intake properly the electronic control units under the passenger seat wouldn’t have a tendency to get flooded and cause all sorts of intermittent problems. 🙁

More snow today

Despite the overnight weather forecast being rain it snowed overnight with more snow this morning.

A trip to Tesco again this morning, it was much busier than yesterday.

Some of the side roads are still very slippery although the Nissan Patrol coped very well. I still haven’t needed to switch it into four wheel drive during the current spell of snow. 🙂

A very wet Sunday

We went out to lunch at John and Ida’s in Pontypridd today, excellent as always!

There was a very impressive cloud burst while we were driving home and the road under the railway bridge at Llantwit Road in Treforest was flooded to a couple of feet. The cars in front all turned around but as we were in the Nissan Patrol a few feet of water isn’t a problem. 🙂 A Peugot had become stranded and I offered him a tow, I didn’t have any wellingtons with me so it was a shoes and socks off job and roll up my trousers, naturally the water was quite cold. I attached the clip on tow rope that is always in the back of the Patrol and towed the stranded driver home, which was only about half a mile further along Llantwit Road. I must remember to put a pair of wellies in the car!

I completed the initial album design for Andrew and Natalie later this afternoon.

A very warm Friday

I emailed the initial design for their wedding album to Amy and Alistair this morning.

I dropped the Nissan Patrol down to have the aircon converted and serviced. Went to Makro and Tesco with my Mum and bumped into my cousin Julie who I haven’t seen for some time. Collected the Nissan Patrol later this afternoon, it’s so nice to have the aircon working. 🙂

A warm sunny Saturday

More building work today, the builders have laid the floor for the new conservatory, laid a new concrete base for the garden shed and completed more work on the retaining wall in the back garden. The drive is also clear enough now to be able to park the Nissan Patrol on the drive once again.

Lunch at Leekes and a quiet evening relaxing.

A warm and sunny Sunday

I finished re-wiring the trailer socket on the Nissan Patrol this morning. I met Lisa (one of our brides from last year) at Tesco in Talbot Green this morning and then on to the Bridgend Classic Car Show at Pencoed. A very large selection of classic cars from vintage to modern at the show this year which is organised by the South Wales Classic Car Club and held at the Pencoed Agricultural College.

Here’s a photograph of the engine bay of an immaculate MGC roadster (I owned one myself for many years and it was a terrific car with bags of character).

And here’s a photograph of a Ferrari engine bay.

A drive around the coast, stopping at Southerndown before returning home for a relaxing evening.
