A busy weekend

On Saturday I delivered John and Amanda’s wedding album to them, they’re delighted with it and love the contemporary style of the album.

Saturday evening I went to a TSB reunion at Tiger Tiger in Cardiff, it was really great to see so many former colleagues that I haven’t seen for a number of years. It was twenty years ago that what was then TSB General Insurance relocated from Andover to Newport. Quite a number of us worked in Andover prior to the move to Newport although very few from that time are still working at what is now Lloyds TSB. It was a very enjoyable evening.

A cool Wednesday

Pobol y Cwm fans may be interested to know that Lisa Victoria who plays Sheryl in the popular Welsh TV series now has her own web site. It’s also nice to see some familiar faces returning to the series including Debbie Moon who plays Rhian Haf, Rhys ap William who plays Cai and Catrin Arwel who plays Emma.

Now that the peak of the wedding season is over I’m currently working on a number of wedding album designs and I spent the afternoon working on my accounts.

David and Hannah called in this evening. πŸ™‚

A busy week

I’ve completed all the initial processing of the images from Dean and Cath’s wedding. Their web gallery was loaded onto our web site on Monday morning. We started photographing the wedding preparations at 11 o’clock in the morning and continued right through to around 11:30 in the evening and we had over 400 images to process. Our Nikon D2X and Fuji cameras performed flawlessly and captured some great images in some very challenging lighting which ranged from blazing sunshine to night time images outside.

All our images are captured in raw format to ensure maximum quality and then converted into high resolution jpeg files in Adobe Lightroom, while the slight corrections to some images for exposure and white balance is a fairly quick process the card downloads and the import into Lightroom and the export out of Lightroom takes a little time. Once we’ve created the high resolution images we then use BreezeBrowser Pro to create web resolution copies which are used to create the web viewing gallery and DVD slideshow.

While the images are being processed we hold copies on both our working computer and our file server (we also still have the images on the camera cards), once all the processing is completed we also create additional copies of the raw images and jpegs on DVD archives, the images from the camera cards are then no longer needed.

I sent the thumbnail proofs to the lab for printing on Tuesday evening and they were received back yesterday morning.

All the processing is now completed until Dean and Cath select the images for their wedding album or we receive orders from the web gallery which will be available to guests once Dean and Cath have viewed them.

I know a number of photographers who take several weeks to load up their web viewing galleries but with my workload I need to keep up to date with processing so everything is completed fairly quickly, for this reason we also produce album designs within a few days of receiving the list of selected photographs, once the album design is approved the album is ordered and the print files sent to the lab within a day.

A cold Tuesday

I had intended going to my Welsh class this morning, I’ve missed a number of weeks following my recent surgery, unfortunately Julie rang this morning to say that she’s unable to run the class today as she’s not feeling very well. πŸ™

I spent the morning applying 3M repositionable pressure mount to a large number of photographs ready to mount them in the albums I’m currently working on. Perhaps one day someone will devise a mounting product that is easy to use, so far this time I’ve avoided cutting my fingers with the scalpel. πŸ™‚

Jason called in this evening to collect the print order from his and Jennie’s wedding. Their Jorgensen wedding album is being delivered this week so their album should be ready at the end of the week. With a bit of luck I should have completed all the current album orders this week.

A wet and dreary Wednesday

An overcast and wet day. The roof and window blinds have been fitted in the conservatory and it makes a big difference to the light and temperature, just need a bright sunny day now to be able to properly judge the improvement.

Welsh class this evening, it’s proving difficult once again to get back into the swing of it following the long summer break but Julie is giving us plenty of practice speaking in various tenses and using all those tricky mutations that are a feature of the language.

Andrew dropped in their selection of images for their Jorgensen wedding album last night and I’ve been working on the initial album design, it’s taking shape very nicely.

A wet Monday

It’s been a very busy few days. Sam and Sophie called around a few days ago to collect the DVD slideshow of their recent wedding and sat with my notebook computer and selected the images for their wedding album. I emailed them an initial design for their album the next day and they emailed back a few minor changes that evening, the final design was then approved and the files sent to the lab for printing. I’ve also been busy making up albums and processing orders from our web galleries.

The work on the fences has been completed, the only outstanding work is a new roof for the car port and the roof and window blinds for the conservatory which are hopefully being fitted at the end of the week. Here are a couple of snaps that show part of the conservatory interior.

This is where I spend most of my working day! Colour laser printer on the left, then the notebook computer which is used for most tasks including email, image processing etc., unfortunately the colours on the notebook aren’t terribly accurate so images are viewed on the Eizo monitor to the right. When not processing images the Eizo is used to view the Linux file server (which is located upstairs). The album display shelves are on the right.

A very warm Friday

I emailed the initial design for their wedding album to Amy and Alistair this morning.

I dropped the Nissan Patrol down to have the aircon converted and serviced. Went to Makro and Tesco with my Mum and bumped into my cousin Julie who I haven’t seen for some time. Collected the Nissan Patrol later this afternoon, it’s so nice to have the aircon working. πŸ™‚

A relaxing Sunday

Lunch at the Hollybush once more today! Julie (my Welsh tutor), her mum and aunt were also there. They were serving home-made apple pie and custard, it was delicious.

Upgraded the PHP version on my local Apache server, not very exciting!

Neil and Michelle have arranged to come and see me tomorrow evening to talk about the photographs for their wedding album.
